Wander around day and night, life moves pretty slowly. Wander from one tiny bar or restaurant to another. Wander through the markets. Wander up and down the beach. Some places will be empty and cozy, others will be bustling. There’s always a corner to cuddle up in or a friendly bartender making killer Mai Tais. Cold beers, great food, and even mojitos are cheap and plentiful.
I used to pack my checked bag ever so carefully, while throwing this, that, and the other thing into a haphazard pile titled "carry on". But I got tired of elbowing my aisle-mates trying to rifle through a bag only Mary Poppins could handle.
There were very few people there, even in the height of bird season, so views were completely unobstructed and hopping from puffin to puffin was very easy. I hogged the perfect view of an affectionate puffin couple for hours, guilt-free!
The most important practice of all? Follow the rules and be reasonable. If there's a red line you're not supposed to cross, don't cross it, it's there for a reason. For the love of animals, give them their space and take the experts seriously - don't worry, your pictures will still be good.
